Portfolio

So far these are the pictures I've taken for my portfolio. I know that they're not exactly the strongest photos and overall they're not very cohesive but I've still been pondering specifically what I want my focus to be for my portfolio and I've been having some trouble. There were two of these pictures that were kind of "set-up" by accident and that's what I think makes them interesting. With the rest of them I was just trying to capture things that were close to me that effect me every day; for example, the picture of the medication is a good representation of the current stages of my life and the health issues i've dealt with.

Book Cover: Picture Perfect by Jodi Picoult

I chose the book Picture Perfect by Jodi Picoult; Its about a women who tries to run away from her husband because of his abuse and her difficulties with doing that because she's married to a very famous actor who is liked a lot. Everyone thought that they were the "perfect" couple and she is afraid no one would believe her. I took a picture of a porceline doll because they usually seem perfect but you never know what problem occured while making the doll or whether its exactly what it was meant to be. I used photoshop to brighten the pictures colors.

New Year: Stop Motion video

So for the start of this new year we were told to come up with an idea for a stop motion video; Claressa and I were talking about the skittles commercial one day and we thought that was a good start to an idea. We decided that the best idea would be to make the stop motion video about a lonely girl who makes everything disappear by touching it; all of the things she touches turns into sketches in her notepad. She gets frustrated because even people disappear and she feels like she's alone and she's a freak. In the end a boy comes along and shows her that he can do the same thing. We thought this was a good idea because it could be used to show a lot of emotion and it was a good little story related to the idea that there's someone meant for everyone.
This was an interesting project; I think that it was a good way to start the year because it got each of us to work together. It was difficult for me to be a group leader because I'm not typically that outspoken. I think that my group did an okay job of showing the main points of the original idea, however, I know that it could've been better. I think our main problem was communication and if we could've had more ideas we could've come up with a more solid finish.

Quote

"There's a world of difference between truth and facts. Facts can obscure the truth." -Maya Angelou

I'm not sure why but this quote made me think of a rainbow, and luckily I was able to take a picture of one! :] I used photoshop to make the picture clearer and to brighten the colors. I like this photo because it looks like the rainbow is disappearing into the tree.

Principles of Design

I used my digital camera and took a picture to represent each of the Principles of Design; Rhythm, Pattern, Unity, Emphasis, Balance, and contrast. I used photoshop to put them all together in a collage.

Brushes

This is the same beauty shot that I took before but in this picture I used brushes from photoshop to make a background to emphasize the feeling of the picture. I wanted this to be kind of light and youthful so I used brushes that had swirls and and dots to make it a little whimsical and childlike. I used cooler colors for the brushes in order to contrast with her bright yellow jacket because I wanted the picture to be fun and spunky but calm and not outta control.
